Maggie Zhang

I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the area of information systems at the McIntire School of Commerce, University of Virginia, advised by Prof. Steven L. Johnson and Prof. Jingjing Li. I received my Ph.D from the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign, with Prof. Yang Gao as my director of research. I also received an M.Phil. from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and a B.A. from Tsinghua University.

My research investigates how social media and artificial intelligence reshape individual behavior and societal outcomes. In particular, I study the role of social AI in influencing user interactions. Using large-scale data, econometric analyses, and experiments, I provide evidence-based insights into the implementation of emerging technologies.

My work has appeared in Information Systems Research and contributes to advancing both scholarly understanding and practical solutions for managing AI-mediated social media.
